Guillame de Machaut - Dreams in the Pleasure Garden

14 tracks - MP3 192 Kbps - RAR 123 Mb

Uploaded - FileFactory

This program offers 14 chansons of Guillaume de Machaut in nearly ideal performances. We hear the songs as the composer's intentions are now understood, one voice to a part without accompaniment. Most of these songs have been recorded before, though not as well as this group sings them. The rondeau Certes mon oueil and the ballade Une vipère have never been recorded before, and He! dame de valour was recently recorded only on instruments. The ballades De Fortune and Se quanque amours have never been recorded as well as these, and the ballade En amer has never been recorded entirely with voices. The ballade Je puis trop bien has never been recorded satisfactorily or completely.
An important and familiar piece is the rondeau Ma fin est mon commencement in a version quite as good as the Hilliard Ensemble's fine recording. The ballade De toutes flours is another of the few selections that are already available in fine versions. For the most part, this disc gives us beautiful singing in some of Machaut's more difficult songs. As Daniel Leech-Wilkinson says in his notes, the songs we hear today have "memorable tunes, regular phrasing, strong metre and clear harmony." Most of the songs on this disc are not so gratifying to the modern ear. They give us an insight into Machaut's most daring efforts at composition, largely from his middle period around 1350. One of the finest Machaut discs. JEROME WEBER

''Quant'è bella giovinezza,
che si fugge tuttavia!

chi vuol esser lieto, sia:

di doman non c'è certezza...''

''Comme elle est belle, la jeunesse
qui s'envole si vite hélas,
soyez heureux, n'attendez pas!
demain n'est qu'une vaine promesse...''

''How sweet is youth,

but, alas, so fleeting!
Be happy, waste no time,
for tomorrow is but a vain promise...''

Lorenzo de Medici was born on January 1, 1449 in Florence, Italy. "Lorenzo The Magnificent," as he was called by the people of Florence, was a statesman, ruler, and patron of the arts. "The Magnificent" was a common title of respect in Italy at the time, but it was Lorenzo who raised it to special status.

Lorenzo ruled Florence with his younger brother, Giuliano, from 1469 to 1478. After his brother's assassination in 1478, he was sole ruler until his death. Perhaps Lorenzo's greatest contribution to history was his patronage of the arts. He contributed more than anyone to the flowering of Florentine genius in the late 15th century, supporting such giants as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Lorenzo treated the artists under his protection with respect and warm-hearted familiarity.

W.A.Mozart - Complete Solo Clavier-Concerte

10 CD - MP3 192 Kbps - 10 RAR ~800Mb

“Anima Eterna’s stunning playing in the tuttis is perfectly balanced with the fluent playing of Immerseel” Gramophone Magazine

This set of Mozart's concertos for solo piano, recorded in 1990 and 1991, was one of the earlier widely publicized traversals of the Mozart cycle to be performed on historical instruments, in this case a modern copy of a Viennese Walter fortepiano. The chief virtue of the set is that Belgian fortepianist Jos van Immerseel and his Anima Eterna ensemble work together in extremely well-coordinated readings.

"Is there a Baroque beyond Bach? ... Now comes the turn of the fascinating figure Jean-Philippe Rameau, the French composer and theorist who died 14 years after Bach... His music [is] unsurpassed in elegance and wit... All too predictably, given the moribund state of the classical record business today, several favorite Rameau recordings are out of print, including one of the best: Frans Bruggen's 1987 disc of suites from 'Les Boreades' and 'Dardanus' with the Orchestra of the 18th Century, on Philips."

Wagenseil - Quartets for low strings

2 CD - MP3 192 Kbps - RAR 164 Mb

As a chief representative of early Viennese classicism, Georg Christoph Wagenseil (1715-1777) united Italian, French and German stylistic elements in his works. The Six Quartets for Low Strings on this double disc occupy a special position in his chamber music, simply by virtue of their unusual scoring and the type of classical four-movement quartet that was just coming into being. Piccolo Concerto Wien under the direction of Roberto Sensi introduces us to a music notable both for its music-historical significance and that typically Viennese quality: charm.

It is fascinating to note how, in the manuscript, the instruments are indicated alongside each of the 4 respective staves: violoncello o viola prima; violoncello o viola seconda; violoncello 3zo; basso. (first cello or viola; second cello or viola; third violoncello; bass). This would mean that not only is it possible to play these quartets with three cellos and double bass, but that there is another possibility – two violas, cello and double bass. In this second version with violas, the effect is that of a classical string quartet sounding an octave lower.
We were unable to resist taking the opportunity to employ this “viola” alternative in three of the six quartets. Not only does it create an interesting change in instrumental colour, but it expresses both of the performance indications given by Wagenseil himself.

G.F.Handel - Orlando

3 CD - MP3 192 Kbps - RAR 256 Mb

Uploaded - FileFactory

This new Orlando, recorded live in 2008, shows Malgoire and his period group to advantage. The orchestra sounds better than it did 30 years ago, undoubtedly the result of continued familiarity with period instruments, which has been evident for many years in recording after recording by period-instrument groups. Malgoire’s leadership retains the virtues of his previous recordings: reasonable tempos, almost never rushed; recitatives that are dramatically and realistically delivered; and a sense that we are listening to warm, living characters, undoubtedly helped by the fact that this is taken from a staged performance.
