dir. Pál Németh
Venice, 9 Dec 1745 - Venice, 18 May 1818

Italian composer, violinist and singer.
Unusually for a woman composer at that time, there appear to have been no other musicians in her family and she became famous entirely through her own efforts.
In 1753 she was admitted to the Ospedale dei Mendicanti in Venice, not as an orphan but as a musician who would be an asset to their all-female choir and orchestra.
She must have been an outstanding violinist since in 1760 she was allowed to go to Padua to study with Tartini; as the lessons were delayed, Tartini wrote her a long letter explaining his violin playing methods and the best way to practise.
It was copied in Padua before it was sent and by 1770, because of its importance, it was in print in Italy, shortly followed by translations into English (by Charles Burney), German and French. (...) (segue).

Handel - Opera Arias

Nathalie Stutzmann’s classic recording of Handel arias with the Hanover Band was re-released a few years ago, which meant many more people could enjoy her poetic singing. Her deep, rich contralto voice is surprisingly agile, easily dispatching Handel’s more difficult arias and creating some very exciting moments.

Ghirardello da Firenze: Madrigali, Cacce, Ballate

Ghirardello da Firenze (also known as Giovanni da Cascia) was a composer of the Italian trecento and a contemporary of Francesco Landini; he was also one of the earliest members of the so-called "Florentine Group" that dominated musical currents in the middle of the 14th century. Judging from the proliferation of his works in various manuscripts, Ghirardello's music was widely known and often played; he was also a pioneer in the production of madrigals. Despite his contemporary renown and excellent survival rate, the 14th century was a long, long time ago and even Landini doesn't have very many collections devoted solely to his work. On Nuova Era's Ghirardello da Firenze: Madrigali Cacce, Ballate Dal Codice Squarcialupi, period ensemble group Ensemble Modo Antiquo, led by Federico Maria Sardelli, plunge into the famed Squarcialupi Codex in order to extract a selection of 16 pieces by Ghirardello.

Nuria Rial & La Floridiana present world premiere recordings by Marianna Martines, a famous female composer in the time of Mozart and Haydn.

Marianna Martines was one of the most accomplished and highly honoured female musicians of the eighteenth century. She studied with the young Joseph Haydn and was known in Vienna to be a gifted singer and keyboard player, who performed duets with Mozart himself. Despite the fact that many of her compositions appeared in print during her own lifetime many of her works are still missing, among them a total of probably 28 sonatas and eight concertos for harpsichord. The album includes four world premiere recordings, and is released to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Marianna Martines who died on March 11th 1812. The 28 page booklet is complete with elaborate liner notes and full libretti in German, English and French.

Telemann - Tutti Flauti!

24 tracks - MP3 192 Kbps - RAR 106Mb

This CD is extraordinary in many ways, starting with the absolutely perfect choice of works. Granted, Telemann concertos are more or less foolproof, and it takes a pretty bad musician to ruin any piece by this composer. But even so, among all the delicious Telemann concertos available, these are some of the most scrumptious. Furthermore, they are served to the listener on a silver plate, with the best of sauces, and cooked by the best chefs.(...)
I will be quite direct: simply put, this is one of the best flute CDs that I have heard in quite a while, and it belongs in every library and collection. FANFARE: Laura Rónai

Beautiful and impressive playing like this sets the standards to which others must aspire! Early Music Review

Alfred Deller - Complete Vanguard Recordings

35 CD - MP3 192 Kbps - 16 RAR 3.11Gb

"Deller, the first modern virtuoso countertenor, is most often cited for his unmatched expressiveness, his ability to hold an audience rapt with his long-breathed phrases and uncanny, subtle shadings of tone and dynamics. And if you're wondering what this is about, just listen to his rendition of Dowland's "If my complaints", a virtual clinic in vocal poetry. Listen carefully, or you'll miss the most finely-wrought, heartfelt utterances ever captured on a recording. The world has not seen the equal of Alfred Deller; even though we have countertenors today with purer, more even and luxurious tone, none of these singers surpasses Deller in sheer, fundamental artistry or an understanding, internalized feeling for the art of song itself."

Bach - Sonatas & Partitas For Solo Violin

2 CD - MP3 192 Kbps - RAR 225 Mb

To many, Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin have become one vast uninterrupted musical fabric. Thanks to French Baroque violinist Amandine Beyer, you have the opportunity to meet each Sonata and Partita anew, each with its own personality and range of musical and technical possibilities.
Beyer’s use of the violin’s unique resources in terms of dynamic swell and highly nuanced tone color, even in the shortest of bow strokes, is consistently exhilarating.
And despite the wealth of expressive means she applies, the music flows smoothly and organically, within individual movements and from movement to movement within individual suites.
Paradoxically, although her playing affirms musicology in its energy and attention to detail and expressive meaning, Beyer uses ornamentation sparingly, usually in repeated passages, and subjugates tempi, with their happy acquiescence, to what she reckons is the music’s most graceful trajectory.
Zig Zag Territoires’ production team, working in a historic Swiss theater dating back to 1837, has given Beyer a natural acoustic in which to become intimate with Bach.
The liner notes, by Beyer and Olivier Fourés, find it provocative that Bach titled the music “Sei solo” (rather than the grammatically correct “Sei Soli”), which can be translated literally as “you’re alone.”
Her performance of a solo violin sonata by Pisendel, “the best-known German violinist of his generation,” provides context for what Bach’s contemporaries might have experienced when they first heard this extraordinary music.
Beyer’s modern fiddle, based on classic models, was made in 1996 by Pierre Jacquier; Eduardo Gorr made her bow in 2000. The combination provides a variety of rich and subtle sound; though sometimes in the fastest movements her bow has to scurry to keep up with the notes, generally it holds its own with Bach’s requests for virtuosity.
Her double-stops throughout are quite pleasing.
