De Fragilitate - Piae Cantiones

22 tracks - MP3 192 Kbps - RAR 130Mb

DepositFiles - FileFactory

The Piae Cantiones (1582) is Finland’s one and only collection of early music and reflection of Europe’s medieval musical heritage. Zefiro Torna performs these beautiful carols, devote and student songs with 15th-16th century instruments and includes a children’s choir. The discrete but charming use of a kantele introduces a Finnish-ing touch to the sound.

The majority of the compositions belongs to the Germanic-Bohemian cantio tradition. There are also links to French, Spanish and Italian sources and to Flemish masters such as Jacob Obrecht. The religious songs — the majority being Christmas songs — are grouped together according to the liturgical year. The remaining songs deal with the transitory character of earthly life, the human condition, the life of schoolchildren, Biblical subjects and the rebirth of Nature in the spring.

Very few collections of music from the 16th century are so strongly anchored in contemporary musical life as the Piae Cantiones are in Finland today, becoming a fixed part of Finnish choral and religious music with the flowering of Finnish nationalism and romanticism in the early 20th century. Variants of these cantiones can be found in Finland’s religious folk music, whilst many composers have also made arrangements of the songs, including Jean Sibelius in his ‘Carminalia’.

“These 24 of the 74 songs from Piae Cantiones form not only a wonderful programme, permitting a variety of styles ranging from pure medieval to rustic and folksy but are also delightful performances….There are delicious and always aptly chosen instrumental contributions, including local colour from the Finnish kantele, and the children sing disarmingly with an ardent, earthly grace, like angelic urchins….”

The Music of Islam

17 CD - MP3 192 Kbps - 15 RAR 1.80Gb

DepositFiles - FileFactory

With 17 CDs in 15 volumes, The Music of Islam boxed set artistically presents nearly 20 hours of diversely rich Islamic music recorded throughout the Islamic Belt with over 800 pages of synoptic scholastic text written by leading scholars and ethnomusicologists from around the world. Creating a class of its own, and perhaps setting a new standard, The Music of Islam is an unequalled sound document destined to live beyond our time and, regrettably, most likely surpass the very existence of some of the people and cultures featured.

The artists

The Music of Islam is the result of a vision going back over a decade to Michelle Zackheim's visual art project The Tent of Meeting (see Harmonic Meetings 14013) which inspired Eckart Rahn to record 200 musicians in 9 countries on 3 continents over 10 years; the finished project can surely be regarded as recorded music history.
New Zealander David Parsons, an accomplished musician and acclaimed producer and Prof. Margaret Kartomi of Australia, the leading expert of Indonesia's music cultures, have captured the very essence of each area; the people, culture and music.
The musicians and reciters recorded in the series are masters of their chosen art, regionally and worldwide, with numerous years of intense study (or a lifetime devotion to studying) from a long lineage of great composers, reciters, mystics and spiritual leaders. Each is truly a divine gift, not only to their respective cultural history, but to the world at large.
While all volumes feature commonly played Arabic instruments, some volumes include instruments specific to their musical heritage.

In 2002, the beautiful Canadian-Armenian soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian scored a major success when she appeared as Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, in Handel’s opera Giulio Cesare for the Canadian Opera Company. As one critic observed at that time, "Cleopatra is one of Handel’s most superb, and psychologically intricate, creations. The luminous Bayrakdarian has made a wonderful beginning in a role she will surely take to the great stages of the world—at first childishly seductive, then calculating, and ultimately revealing a profound nobility and vulnerability." For her third CD for CBC Records, Ms. Bayrakdarian has chosen arias from four works focusing on the Egyptian femme-fatale.

G.P.Telemann - Tutti Flauti!

24 tracks - MP3 192 Kbps - RAR 106Mb

This CD is extraordinary in many ways, starting with the absolutely perfect choice of works. Granted, Telemann concertos are more or less foolproof, and it takes a pretty bad musician to ruin any piece by this composer. But even so, among all the delicious Telemann concertos available, these are some of the most scrumptious. Furthermore, they are served to the listener on a silver plate, with the best of sauces, and cooked by the best chefs.(...)
I will be quite direct: simply put, this is one of the best flute CDs that I have heard in quite a while, and it belongs in every library and collection. FANFARE: Laura Rónai

Beautiful and impressive playing like this sets the standards to which others must aspire! Early Music Review

Ghirardello da Firenze: Madrigali, Cacce, Ballate

16 tracks - MP3 192 Kbps - RAR 91Mb

DepositFiles - FileFactory

Ghirardello da Firenze (also known as Giovanni da Cascia) was a composer of the Italian trecento and a contemporary of Francesco Landini; he was also one of the earliest members of the so-called "Florentine Group" that dominated musical currents in the middle of the 14th century. Judging from the proliferation of his works in various manuscripts, Ghirardello's music was widely known and often played; he was also a pioneer in the production of madrigals. Despite his contemporary renown and excellent survival rate, the 14th century was a long, long time ago and even Landini doesn't have very many collections devoted solely to his work. On Nuova Era's Ghirardello da Firenze: Madrigali Cacce, Ballate Dal Codice Squarcialupi, period ensemble group Ensemble Modo Antiquo, led by Federico Maria Sardelli, plunge into the famed Squarcialupi Codex in order to extract a selection of 16 pieces by Ghirardello.

A warning!

Usually I prefer to buy the actual CD, even if second hand, but sometimes I buy digital music.
Amazon isn't allowed to sell that in my country so I try to find other ways.

Passionato used to be OK, but not too much choice.

Some days ago I bought two CDs in MP3 format for around €20 from 7Digital. The download operation was fine and smooth and the MP3 sounded OK, but... no booklet, no cover, not a txt with notes... nothing.
In this section of their site they wrote:

All new and recently-added MP3 downloads will contain artwork but downloads from the older part of our catalogue may not. However, we are working to deliver artwork with all MP3 downloads.

The music I downloaded was released this year, I supposed this qualify it as new.

So I wrote to them asking an explanation. They answered, but they "tweaked" their infos telling that if artwork is provided it will be made clear in the product page.

No hope, still I felt it was not right and ask them to remove the misleading piece of info from their site. They answered something generic but as today their site is always presenting the same false info.

So, be warned: I'm sure there are safest and cleaner places to buy your digital music from.

Eduardo Paniagua CD Collection [101 albums]

101 CD - MP3 192 Kbps - 101 RAR - 10.20 Gb

Uploaded - FileFactory

Eduardo Paniagua (born 1952 in Madrid, Spain) is a Spanish architect and musician, specializing in medieval Spanish music.
Between 1966 and 1983, he was a member of the group Atrium Musicae de Madrid, led by his older brother Gregorio, playing wind instruments and percussion. More recently he has been a founding member of the groups Cálamus and Hoquetus which specialize in the music of Arabic Andalusia.
In 1994, he created the group Música Antigua to perform and record the Cantigas de Santa Maria. In the same year he also founded the group Ibn Báya Ensemble together with the oud player Omar Metioui, for the performance and recording of Andalusian music. Other regular collaborators include Moroccan singers Said Belcadi, Mohammed El-Arabi Serghini, and the Algerian oud player Salim Fergani.

Atrium Musicae de Madrid

Perhaps the group's most famous recording is Musique de la Grèce Antique (Music of Ancient Greece), in which they performed ancient Greek music carefully taken down off scattered fragments of still existing papyrus. Performing the ancient compositions also meant the reconstruction of an arsenal of ancient instruments. This certainly was a fascinating aspect of the group's life performances during a series of acclaimed international tours. The success of this 1978 recording is not the only feather in the group's collective cap. The 1976 Musique Arabo-Andalouse delves into Hispanic-Moslem music, and is credited with creating a whole new interest in this fascinating genre of southern Spain. From the late 1970s into the early 1980s the group began a series of recordings dealing with 15th and 16th century popular Spanish songs, then sailed to the New World for the fascinating Las Indias de Espana, a recording of Pre-Columbian music collected from archives. The decision to dissolve the group was no doubt based on some of the younger brothers' interest in beginning solo careers.

Hispania & Japan - Dialogues

19 tracks - MP3 192 Kbps - RAR 120Mb

In 2006 Road to the Orient was released by Alia Vox. This double album was a musical portrait of Francisco Javier and of his trip from Spain to Japan. On this occasion, Jordi Savall met Japanese musicians who soon became his friends and with whom he performed in many concerts around the world. Consequently, following the catastrophes in Japan, Jordi Savall decided to release this special tribute album in which the most significant pieces of the dialogue between Spain and Japan are gathered.

All profits will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross. (Think about it!)

Music of Prague Palace and Gardens 1620

…The music included in this volume is exclusively Italian, and by now its composers have almost fallen into oblivion. However, Troilus' interest in them proves their remarkable value. One of them, Enrico Radesca di Fogia, an organist and since 1615 a conductor of the Duke's music ensemble in Turin, is in fact represented by a unique collection of all the five books of canzonette, arias and madrigals. Among them, there …Thanks to the care devoted by the Milanese dance master Cesare Negri to the preparation of his treatise for press (1602), a number of pieces composed as occasional music has been preserved, unlike many others which did not have the honour to be recorded permanently. In his effort to provide the reader with the musical accompaniment to the published dances and balletti, he recorded a host of unique compositions, albeit often in rough outline only. …..In most of the parts of the volume, vocal - monodic music is predominant. These monophonic songs - accompanied monodies - were among the novelties of the time and the reason why they appeared was the difficult comprehensibility of the text of polyphonic compositions.
